I have owned two sheets of australian opals that were claimed to be around $2000 when I was given them. If I take them to a jewler how do I know if they are being completly truthful with me. How do I know they wont tell me they are worth less than they are so that they can trick me into selling them to them for less?

The answer is, you don't. Your best bet is to take the "sheets" (?) to more than one jeweler to get them appraised. You really need to take them to a jeweler that is a GIA jeweler. GIA = Gemological Institute Of America.
