Show Me The Magic: 5 Make-up Tips For Better Glamour Images
Glamour photography boasts many nuances, yet there is one which is frequently under-estimated - I'm talking about make-up. A good make-up for your model can add up to the mood of the picture, can make her look even more gorgeous than she normally does, create a powerful emotional impression and so on. There are countless ways to apply make-up and benefit from it, so nothing will limit your creativity. Make-up plays sometimes a vital part on the beauty shots, so we will pay attention to some really important issues on this matter.
90% of artists solve the problem of make-up in two different ways:
- they give their model the freedom to wear whatever cosmetics she wants;
- they invite a make-up artist.
however, none of those ways is perfect - your model may not even know that her casual make-up could well be "washed away" by studio lights and become almost invisible on the photograph; whereas a make-up artist may well make you pay through the nose for their services, hourly. In any case theres always a chance that the result will turn out to be not as perfect as you imagined.
This leads us to the point that we glamour artists must be aware of some corner-stone basics of studio make-up to ensure our Glamour Photos are as good as they can be.
1. Powder, powder, yet more powder. When it comes to powder, you cannot possibly overdo it - feel free to use a plenty of it. It is invaluable when it comes to making your model's face appear smooth and mat. no matter if your model normally doesn't use powder - in a studio, it is mostly necessary.
2. Facial make-up. In order to be distinguishable on your glamour images, make-up has to be darker than in real life. The fact is that lighting usually has a somewhat diminishing effect on cosmetics, so you should make sure it is noticeable and definite, but not too heavy. Let your model apply it in a subtle manner and avoid tracing distinct lines. If you need to make the face look somewhat oval, make-up has to be laid below the cheekbone and under the chin.
3. Lip color. In order not to lose the models lips on the picture, she should apply something one shade darker than in life. At the same time, forget about black lipstick. Too light hues often fade out almost completely, so try to stick to the golden middle.
4. Applying eye shadow. It should be of lighter shades, or the model will bear all the signs of a sleepless night. Whereas a light shadow for the eyes makes them brighter and livelier; it's likely to work better than dark and obscure eye shadow.
5. Heavy but neat. Applying more make-up doesnt mean it should be done in a messy manner that's why don't rush your model to the camera and give her some time to perfect her looks (this is especially important concerning eyes and lips). To save some more time, the model can work on her looks at home, before she heads for the studio. To prevent any unpleasant complications, it is advisable for your model to have a make-up case with her.
If you consider these tips, both you and your model will end up more satisfied and happy with the work done. You will definitely spend hours and hours of fruitful work, perfecting your skill in Artistic Glamour Photography. Enjoy what you do, even if it is merely working on your model's make-up!
