Fluorescent Orange Tshirt Will Help You To Remain Seen
The 1960s was a decade of incredible change. Not only did humans walk on the moon but an entire way of thinking was upended. The emergence of a subculture labeled "hippie" made non-traditional clothing and colors desirable, a trend quickly noted by the entertainment and fashion industries. The new colors were bright, flashy and could be used in a variety of applications. One of the more popular uses has been the creation of fluorescent orange tshirts.
The Science
True fluorescence, found in nature, in quite different from garish, bright clothing dyes. It is a phenomenon that occurs in many creatures and substances both on land and under the sea and is generally produced by absorbing and converting non-visible photons into visible displays. The term fluorescence is actually named after fluorite, a natural mineral that glows.
Natural fluorescence is quite different, however, from that found in factory-made clothing. The fluorescent orange t shirts today benefit from improved clothing dyes which make the colors not only brighter, but even reflective. Brighteners and other additives designed to amplify light particles not only make these clothing items into fun fashion items but they also make them highly visible day and night.
In The Safety Industry
This unintended consequence proved to be fortuitous in the industrial safety industry. The new, easy-to-see colors meant that workers in many jobs now had a new way to cut down on injuries caused by poor visibility. Bright orange is popular for these worker applications but other highly visible colors treated in the same chemical fashion include lime green and even bright yellow.
Greater Awareness
Those applications, not necessarily fashion statements, have created truly valid reasons for using these bright colors in clothing. From the simple cotton pullover, to the specialized dyes employed in clothing worn by heavy equipment operators, wearing these glowing outfits creates an automatically greater awareness of the need for caution. Over the years, many lives have been saved because of them.
Useful Elsewhere As Well
Workers in construction or manufacturing are not the only people benefiting from the development of highly visible fluorescent dyes and other materials. While shirts of all types have been given this treatment, some manufacturers combine sturdy space-age fabrics for outdoor recreational use with the same bright colors, creating an extra measure of visibility for hikers, hunters, and other sports enthusiasts.
Several decades after our flirtation with the counter-culture, the bright orange colors that emerged during that era can now be found in trousers and jackets, and even sweat suits and warm fleeces. The color can be applied during the manufacture of such diverse items as laptop cases and shopping bags, making them more difficult to lose. Fluorescent colors have become mainstream, filling a market niche right down to the company logo.
The fluorescent orange shirts must meet minimum safety standards. The sleeveless look is out and most must have at least a short sleeve to qualify for sale in a safety store. The safety tshirt must be durable and adaptable to changing weather. Some are made with further reflective bands for extra visibility, and make a good undergarment for other safety vests and jackets. From its humble beginnings in psychedelic circles, the fluorescent t shirt has become respectable and useful.
Is My Fishtanks Lighting Sufficient?
I have a regular 29 gal freshwater fish tank im trying to grow some micro swords, and baby tears to carpet the entire foreground and was wondering if the Nova Extreme 30" light fixture is enough to do just that (cuz that's what i got on it) if not, will a second fixture fixture of that same specification be too much? or perfect?
the bulbs are 2 24" T5 HO bulbs. One is a 10K, and the other is a pink plant bulb that came with the fixture. im using Fluorite as the substrate, and about to make my own little DIY co2 thing.
i just REALLY want that baby tear grass every aqua-planter seems to effortlessly grow. i am VERY patient, i just want to know, am I in the right direction? and what can i do to make this tank a plant/ fish friendly. THANKS!
Those bulbs seem like they would do the job. I think you are in the right direction.
